SCALING TO THE UNIVERSE
THE WORKSHOP - GIMP
GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
A variety of things can be achieved through gimp such as image manipulation, touching up images, image render and much more. It has a scripting interface which means you can manipulate images easier and unlike photoshop, GIMP can get into the detail of an image preventing pixilating.
Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format.
For Designers of all Kinds

Here are a few examples of my work I relation to scaled using GIMP. I have used a variety of filters and effects to achieve each look. I have also played around with hue/saturation, curves and greyscale.
Here sis the contrast between the image being sharpened and its original form
I have used neon detection to alter the colour to more vibrant, as the background manipulates into black it makes the colours stand out more.
This example I changed the format from RGB to grayscale to see how it would look in its zoomed in (scaled) format.
Libre Graphics encompasses free and open source software applications that are used by designers and artists to create graphics. They not only provide an alternative to other programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, but allow the user to be part of a movement which is becoming more and more popular and that becomes part of practice, not just a use of tools.

WHAT IS LIBRE GRAPHICS?

The film is very famous depiction of scale within graphic design.
The task was to use both Inkscape and GIMP to manipulate an image in terms of scaling it to the universe. GIMP was used to scale an existing image, Inkscape to create our own version. we had to consider:

How does it scale?
What Universe?
What about scaling the space around it?
How can we use our tools in an interesting way?
Here are a few examples of my work I relation to scale using INKSCAPE. I have created a few images of my own to represent scaling of the universe. I also like to think of them as illusions.
THE WORKSHOP - INKSCAPE
Above is the original image, a landscape of Newyork city.
Here is the finished result, in my opinion this is a representation of scaling as each image gets smaller each time.
I simply used the clone tool to duplicate the same image and tiled them one after the other descreaing each images width and length.
I further went onto exploring with filters, i did this by selecting each layer, clicking filter, textures and experimenting until I found the one I wanted.
Here is the finished result, in my opinion this is representation make it difficult to see the scale due to the colours and the texture of the filter, although it still remains a valid example.
WHAT IS SCALE?
The relation between the real size of something and its size on a map, model, or diagram.
I further went on to editing the image using filters, I used the distort tool and clicked the lapping tool to create this water splash effect.
This is what it looks like after usng the cloning tool.
Here you will see a variety of examples I have created on Inkscape in my own time. The original image is displayed above. In order to maniupulate this image into a representation of scale I used the idea of cloning once again.
The final pieces.
